Good news for bad people Pastor Joe

Good people, Bad people; God is the standard for being Good

Download full message
Luke 4: 17-21 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
Luke 2:10 - And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Jesus came to the world to die for every single person - This is why it is a good news.

Why is Jesus a good news?
Good news is not the same as great advice, and trying to do what is good by our own strength (which last for a little time) but the coming of Jesus signifies devine restoration where we can have a unbroken relationship with God.

Why is Jesus packaged for bad people?
Regardless of who we are, the actions or past of any man does not disqualifies him or her from the love of God. Who is bad, who is good? Romans 3:12b - "there is none that doeth Good, no, not one."
The Righteousness of God, which make a man to be in good standing with God is only attained by faith in Jesus Christ - Romans 3:22.
All men outside Jesus have sin in them, even if we have been going to church all our lives. The grace of God is for those who admit their wrong doing and as forgiveness of their sins. A good man that man who is Good by God's standard - Psalm 32:1-3. We have to come to a place where we admit the state of our heart and Let God help us so that He himself can redeem us by grace through the Good news He has sent - Jesus

Counting it all Loss for Christ - Pastor Muyiwa Dada

The Power of His Resurrection: counting it all loss for the sake of Christ

Philippians 3 vs 3-11
 3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,
4 though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so:
5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;
6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

What drove Paul to this point of coming to a conclusion that all His credentials and rights are a loss to him for the sake of Christ Jesus, only so that he may know Him. What does it mean to count it all loss for Christ and what does it mean to know Him?
  • Paul has has experienced a revealing of the content of his heart and opened his eyes to realised that the salvation he was after is not in the zeal of man (as we know that Paul was so active in crucifying disciples of Jesus who seemingly are against the going against the ancient doctrine laid down by Moses).
  • Paul has come to a place where he has agreed that the evidence of a life that is pleasing to God is not in what a man does or has achieved, but it is in the fullness of the life that such a man carries.
  • Paul also has come to a place of total surrender, and has disregarded all his earthly credentials in order to surrender ALL to Jesus.
  • Verse 7-8 for the excellency of Jesus Christ to become knowledge to you, all other things must be counted as a loss. Failure to do this means whatever we hold on to is worth more than Jesus. You will remember that the bible says in Matt 6:24 that you cannot serve 2 master, instead you will love one and hate the other.... For you to grow in the knowledge of the power of His resurrection, the fellowship of the suffering and being conformed inwardly to His death and by so doing share in the resurrection of Jesus's death, I will have to leave all other things aside and count

Counting it all loss for Christ is what Christianity is all about. It is not a religious exercise but is a style of live that has the sole evidence of Christ. This way of living is what is called discipleship, where you are daily living as a follower of Jesus Christ, growing in the knowledge His death and resurrection. This is a life hidden in Christ Jesus,sold out to Him.

Are you sold out to Him yet? Don't forget that until you do so, That life of Christ is yet to be maximised over your life and your time is running out day by day.
